Contemporary artists have an unforeseen plethora of fresh new media for expressing themselves, yet traditional forms of art, namely sculpting and painting, remain as suitable and effective as ever for portraying their artistic visions. Although the line between old-fashioned art and contemporary art seems to blur at times, it is drawn permanently and sharply, separating what we know of past sculpting and painting from what we see and can foresee for the contemporary world of art today. Au courant would certainly describe the paintings and sculptures of the day, with a dash of cachet and a hint of élan. Indeed, sculpting and painting are far from being faded away as the favored media for artists. They are renewed with the vigor of today's artist. Refreshed. Reborn. Rejuvenated.

Within the sculpting realm, contemporary artists' works range from simple symmetry to earthy constructions and to shapes resembling modern objects or human-like silhouettes. Today's sculptures are as varied as the artists who create them and have a distinctive knack for dodging the conventional in style and technique. Antediluvian standards are not so much eliminated, but rather expanded, as sculptors use subject matter that relates only to today's modern world but at the same time emphasizes by contrast the meaning and depth of classical sculptures of the past. Surrealism claims a part in influencing contemporary sculptures, notably with the works of the famous Parisian artist and sculptor Louise Bourgeois. Maman, Bourgeois' acclaimed spider structures, huge in size and striking in form, possess the symbolic and abstract qualities of surrealism. One might argue that only such a contemporary artist could achieve the measure of success Bourgeois has encountered with such brilliantly bizarre figures of art, a tribute to the honesty and boldness of Contemporary Art as it exists today.

Painting, the ancient art form passed down from generation to generation, is transformed by society in the modern age. Ranging from the American landscape painter Paul Andrus to figurative painter Belinda Eaton from the United Kingdom, painting takes on a new life as a medium for art. The world as we know it has changed dramatically. So, why would our paintings stay the same? Technology, global issues, and the changing standards of society all affect the way paintings are painted – and even how they are perceived. Techniques are expanded and we see the development of the tools painters use today. These innovations create aesthetics unique to contemporary paintings.

Clearly, painting and sculpting are not your grandmother's art forms. They are and always will be prominent in the world of art and expression. Most importantly, contemporary paintings and sculptures are created and viewed through new eyes – eyes that have an array of cutting edge tools in front of them. The innovation of Contemporary Art as a whole movement is what makes painting and sculpting original and inspired today.

Several of the drawings included show the meticulous forethought Jean Fouquet had in making many of his more well known works, including paintings, sculptures, and building designs. It is made obvious how he spent months tweaking every element of a project on paper before he would begin the actual work .

I am more into aesthetic beauty than romantic love. Sorry . I like art better than that tingling feeling you get that most girl go crazy for

Nottingham has never been the most well known city on earth. A culturally saturated capitol, Hereford is visited by thousands every week. Currently, Sheffield has multiple amazing and unique art exhibits on display, one of the most awe-inspiring being a large collection of Jan Brueghel the Elder doodles at the British Art Museum. This exhibition is called, “Closer to the Master” and is available for viewing from April 24th until August 25th.

This spectacular exhibit displays an amazing collection of histories all-time greatest Renaissance artists. It draws together a number of pieces from several other art galleries and museums, resulting in an entirely fresh collection. It brings together a number of Sandro Botticelli’s works that have never been seen together before and that have been apart since the dispersion of Donatello’s art studio during the mid 1500’s.

Academy of Art University Students by Phil Hamlett

Blueprints at Art Academy by om_wahine

Updated on April 18, 8:21 a.m.: According to Yale Daily News, Yale authorities are saying the earlier statements made by art student Aliza Shvarts were inaccurate. The university has released a press statement claiming that Shvarts was never pregnant nor did she have any miscarriage. Rather, Miss Shvarts only created a "performance piece" meant to capture the attention of people and generate discussion. Shvarts, on the other hand, still claims she used a needle-less syringe to attempt to impregnate herself, and that she took drugs to induce abortion, but that she never knew if her menses were really miscarriages. Regardless of the fact that Shvarts may never have been pregnant or inflicted self-induced miscarriages, this exhibit still provokes one to ask "what are the boundaries of art?"Original story, April 18, 12:05 a.m.:According to Yale Daily News, Alicia Shvarts - a senior at Yale University - has decided to put her own twist on art. Rather than painting a barn for her senior project, she has undertaken a nine-month long project and documented the results on video camera. What is this project? Shvarts underwent artificial insemination "as often as possible" and then induced miscarriages. Accompanying her video footage of the forced miscarriages is preserved collections of blood. She plans on hanging a large cube from the ceiling, wrapping it in plastic, between layers of plastic she will have the blood, and then the footage of the miscarriages in her bathtub will be projected on the sides of the cube. People on both sides of the abortion debate are appalled by this exhibit. Those advocating freedom of choice claim that she is trivializing the rights of women to choose. Those advocating the rights of the fetus to live are claiming she's morally reprehensible for utilizing a life in order to fuel her artwork. Neither side is focusing on the artwork itself, but rather they are focusing on the methods used to create the artwork. Shvarts is not the only one to create a controversial piece of art. In 1989, a piece titled "Piss Christ" generated quite a bit of controversy. Its artist, Andres Serrano urinated in a jar and placed a small, plastic crucifix into the jar then photographed it. Another work of art creating a bit of controversy is Leon Golub's Interrogation III. This work created controversy due to the graphic nature of the woman depicted. The nature of the work is intended to stir emotion and make a political statement, as Shvarts claims she is doing with her work of art. Eric Fischl has also stirred up emotion among viewers of his work. He depicts adolescent sexuality and voyeurism in his works. His work Tumbling Woman depicted a woman falling from the towers of the World Trade Center at the 9/11 attacks. Jock Sturges, a photographer is no stranger to controversy when it concerns his artwork. His artwork depicts young adolescent and pre-adolescent girls in the nude. Many people have argued that his work is child pornography. And some have even petitioned bookstores such as Barnes and Noble to avoid selling his books. In San Francisco, the San Francisco Art Institute was forced to close down an art exhibit just weeks ago due to threats from animal rights activists. The exhibit was Adel Abdessemed's and titled "Don't Trust Me." It depicted animals being hit by sledgehammers on video. While some of the artwork is controversial because it takes on religious themes, or depicts sexually graphic scenes, or nudity, some artwork goes too far. Exhibits displaying harm to animals or humans cross the boundaries as to what ought to be acceptable. The difference may lie in the concept of harm. If someone or other is being harmed in order to create the artwork, such as in the piece with the sledgehammers, then it would seem as though it is over the top. Shvarts piece is interesting - in one aspect it calls us to question "who is being harmed?" in another, it offends the moral sense. Whichever side of the abortion debates a person is on, this exhibit is sure to stir up conversation.

What Are Acrylic Painting Techniques ? | News Direct Blog http://bit.ly/1NZG7L

When we bought our house a little over 2 years ago, one of the first big-ticket tasks we knew we'd have to deal with was painting the exterior. It was looking rather rough, with huge flakes of paint at least 25 years old falling off the Masonite siding like the leaves of a dying tree. The numerous, drafty cracks needed caulking badly and the window frames screamed to be refreshed with a brand new coat of paint.

Like most of my home improvement projects, I was bound and determined to tackle this one myself, but with so much work that needed to be done to this badly neglected exterior, it would literally take me the entire summer between work. sleep, and chores to do it right; plus there was way too many other fix-ups that needed my attention and could not be ignored. So it was decided that we would try and find a painter who was reasonably priced and would stand behind his work.

After getting estimates from several competent, mediocre, incompetent, and even downright scary-looking house painters, we decided to take a chance with a man named Mike Elmore, owner and president of Americlean Painting and Roof cleaning. He was clean, friendly (but not ingratiating), and prompt, answering all our questions thoroughly with patience and a firm command of his chosen trade.

Two weeks after we accepted his estimate of $2,105 to paint our 1,200 square foot one-story house, he showed up promptly to meet me in my driveway after I came home from work. He walked me around my property, pointing out everything that needed to be done while supplying valid and plausible reasons for the required work. After thoroughly briefing me on the details of the job, he immediately got started with a thorough pressure washing of the exterior.

The next day he returned with his two hard-working, polite, and experienced apprentices, Pablo and Marco, and got started scraping every bit of the loose paint from the exterior siding, trim, and window frames. From there, they repaired and/or replaced every piece of rotten wood (especially around the eaves and soffit of the roof), and caulked every crack and crevice, which actually increased the efficiency of our home so much, it knocked our electric bill down by a whopping 13 percent!

The next day, they papered and taped all the windows and the brick, even the underside of the shingles protruding from the roof's edge, taking extra care to cover my landscaping with plastic drop-cloths. Perhaps most impressive about the prep work of Americlean is that they removed all the storm windows, lighting fixtures, trim, and even the shutters before spraying on the primer, just as an experienced body-man would begin painting a car. This way, every bit of wood and Masonite was given a protective coating, which would prevent any decay from beginning underneath them.

The third and final day was when the two coats of 10-year Pittsburgh paint was applied (we kept the same colors so as to minimize our costs; Jeez, painting's expensive!), and the paper was removed from the windows and our hardware, fixtures, and storm windows reinstalled. The fact that they removed the shutters to paint them separately really impressed us, because they look VERY nice once they were reinstalled!

Americlean has been in business since 1992, but painting isn't all they do. Americlean also cleans mildew and sap stains from asphalt shingle, tile, and tin roofs, as well as sealing driveways, sidewqalks, and patios. They deliver professional results and treat their customers with respect and courtesy. And they did a great job on a horribly neglected finish while charging a price that was more than fair (about 15% under the citywide average). And on top of that, owner Mike Elmore, himself having 20 years painting experience, is a special kind of person that you don't find everyday in the building trades.

It seems we had a nest of newly-hatched Robins in the crook of one of our downspouts, right in the way of where Mr. Elmore and crew needed to paint. My wife and I didn't want any harm to befall the baby birds or their mama, so we decided to carefully move the nest from the downspout to one of our inverted tomato hangers. Not only did Mister Elmore duct tape one of his personal umbrellas to the pole to shade the little hatchlings from the intense April sun, he also got on his hands and knees with me in my corn garden and dug up some fat night crawlers to feed them by hand!

No, not many contractors would have even bothered with such a seemingly insignificant thing as making sure 'our' birds were kept safe, let alone get his hands and knees filthy digging for worms to feed them! This is a man who truly deserves your business, for Mike Elmore is a professional with a heart as big as the Smoky Mountains themselves! So whether you need your house painted, your roof cleaned, or your driveway sealed, Mike Elmore and Americlean will do a fan-tastic job on your home for a very reasonable price!
